Exploring ORIGAMI

'Creative things' is something I love making and I make use of it to add to the decor of my room. Not only does it light up the dull looking walls and corners..but also it enhances my mood when I look at them around. Exploring origami after a long long time (I guess after the school craft days..) was fun. Playing with paper started when I made the birdy wallpaper. It made me realize what wonders a simple paper can do..Though the end product looks so wonderful and simple, the process of transforming the plain paper into 3D figures does take time and most importantly patience. The very first thing I tried was a butterfly (Youtube has been really helpful). I went ahead with a plain white paper initially..And when the 3D looking butterfly was ready, it was necessary to curl the four ends to give it a natural effect..Oops! then I thought, how would a butterfly look complete without bright colors and some nice design. So I chose pastel pink and purple with shimmer to make the design. A floral design would look perfect, is what I knew. As I am good at mehendi art, I thought why not put some flowers made of arabic design on it. And here it is a beautiful 3D butterfly.

That wasn't the end of it. I loved the experience and made a list of various things I could make with origami. One thing on the list for sure was a 'Mobile' (A moving ceiling hanging piece) of cranes. A fine day I happened to chat with a good friend of mine, Mihir; and I told him about my new interest. To my surprise he knew making a 'Crane' (that his father taught him when he was a kid) and promised to teach me how to make one. I'll tell you, it was so much fun learning some creative stuff from a friend on a video chat. I teased him by calling him 'Master-ji' through the whole learning session and as usual he flaunted his dimply smile (people who know him would know).

He gave me the instructions very clearly and also shared some good origami instructions collection he had. I tried one of them which was a '3D flower'. The '3D flower' now adds beauty to the table corner in the drawing room. A 'flower ball' of these 3D flowers (bigger size) in different colors or prints could also serve as corner hanging piece in a room. I am sure that the 'Cranes Mobile' is soon going to come true. Of course, I need to gather some additional material for it.

I take this opportunity to thank Mihir for being a wonderful friend and for encouraging my new creative interest :)
